About Wilcrest

Music
Monty Jones
Music is being used now more than ever before to create a spirit of worship within a congregation as well as an intimate and personal way of communicating to God. When we truly worship God, we allow Him to come down, enter our hearts, and reflect out through us.

The Wilcrest Worship Choir seeks to lead our church body into that spirit of worship each week through it’s unique “Wilcrest” sound. This sound is made from the 11 nations represented in the choir: Cameroon, Venezuela, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Jamaica, U.S. Virgin Islands, Indonesia, Argentina, Philippines and the United States.

They have performed 2 world premieres which were written by Chris Machen. Bow the Knee was performed in 2003 at the Worship America Music Conference in Houston, Texas and in January 2006, More Than Just a Man was presented by our choir at the same conference. Co-writer, Kimberly Messer said, “From a writer’s perspective, you put into flesh and blood a dream of a script and music. . . From the opening solo from your son to Joseph’s final monologue and the reprise of the title song, I was overjoyed at your interpretation and production of this musical.” We thank God for the opportunities our choir and drama team have had to present these 2 powerful musicals. More Than Just a Man was performed on 3 separate occasions during Easter week last year to over 1200 people in our surrounding community.

In June of 2005, the choir went on their first mission choir tour to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, the home of several of our members. We presented concerts during a 3 day revival at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and 2 evening concerts at the downtown park on the island. During the day, our choir members participated in street ministry, Vacation Bible School, taught computer classes, and helped on the construction of the new building for Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

During their 2nd Mission Choir Tour in June 2006, the choir traveled to Chicago, Illinois; Centertown, Missouri; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Longview, Texas performing concerts in various churches and a men’s shelter.

In 2007, the choir traveled to New York City to perform and do ministry work on Staten Island and in Queens and Time Square.

Voices of the Dream have also sung at a Nigerian Church in Houston, Texas and traveled to perform in Corpus Christi, Texas and Sulphur, Louisiana.

This diverse, multi-cultural choir is dedicated to leading people into a worship experience that will honor God, bring people into His presence, and give Him the glory for it all as they, too, experience His power to transform lives. If you are ever in Houston, please stop by and worship with us. We would love to have you.
